Most will last a lifetime. It is possible for the plasting bearing to wear out or for the prosthesis to come loose from the bone. Failure for these or any other reasons occurs with an incidence of approximately 1% per year. For example about 15% will fail after 15 years.

Unfortunatelly some have issues that will require surgery sooner.
