If you had surgery on your left hip or knee, people can usually drive in 2-4 weeks as long as they feel safe behind the wheel and do not take narcotic medication.  If surgery was on your right hip or knee, it may take 4-6 weeks in order to be able to get from the gas to break safely and quickly.
