The skin incision results in injury to some of the sensory nerves of the hip (lateral femoral cutaneous nerve) and knee (infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve). This results in numbness of the skin lateral to the hip or knee. The numb area will decrease in size by about 70% over the two years following surgery but will never completely go away.
